Unfortunately, by the time April graces our calendars most of these new faces disappear due to unfulfilled and often unrealistic goals. The reality is most people do not like to work out, and only consider it because they understand it is good for them. A major problem is a lack of knowledge, a lack of realistic thought process, and a lack of a support plan. Negative behaviors are what has created the problems, so it is positive behaviors that are needed to fix them.

Last week, July 13th, kicked off the first Lakeland Fitness and Golf Junior Golf Camp! This three-day event was a fun filled learning experience for youth golfers ages 6 to 14 of varying skill levels. The junior golfers received hands-on instruction from our golf professional, Scott Howard, and golf assistant, Kailey Godfrey, using our four TruGolf simulators and indoor putting green.

The facility was opened in 1957 and was built on the site of Camp Callan, an Army installation during World War II. The course was named for a rare tree that only grows along the stretch of coast in San Diego and Santa Rosa.

Originally built in 1952 as a regulation length 9 hole par 36 layout, Center City Golf Course was the first golf course in San Diego county. The course was redesigned in the early 90’s by Ludwig Keehn into an 18 hole short course and became known as “Goat Hill” to locals. Quite simply, you will have a hard time finding a more challenging short course with as many unique holes anywhere in the country.

Valderrama Golf Club has been called "The Augusta of Europe." It was home of the 1997 Ryder Cup, the first time the contest was held in continental Europe. The European team won by a margin of 14 ½ to 13 ½. This Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design offers narrow fairways and framed cork trees that were meticulously placed. The 17th hole was infamously toughened by Seve Ballesteros.

This 7,283-yard par 70 course's 16th hole was nicknamed "The Monster" by Arnold Palmer after The King scored a triple bogey on it. The course was home to the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Losby Golf and Country Club is located 20 minutes outside of Oslo, Norway, and plays alongside the River Losby. This Norwegian course was designed by Peter Nordwall. The signature hole, “Finnland,” is a short 336 yard par four. The River Losby runs down the right side of the fairway and cuts in front of the green, making both the tee shot and approach shot difficult.
