/ Blog / Three reasons why you should use a water rower
The ‘Row GX’ water rower by Life Fitness® is a truly unique and essential piece of equipment for anyone's workout. Here are the top three reasons why you should be incorporating this machine into your routine.
1. Low-impact, high-calorie burn for everyone!
The water rower is a very low-impact workout making it a great tool for any fitness level or physical ability. It is also easy to get started with and requires little initial instruction. This rower also features 16 adjustable resistance levels allowing each user to precisely control the intensity of their workout for a customized experience. Along with being low-impact, the water rower is a great high-calorie burn exercise. According to Harvard Health vigorous rowing for 30 minutes can burn up to 440 calories, versus vigorous running for 30 minutes which only burns 420 calories (for approx. 185lb individual). So if you’re looking for the perfect high-calorie burn while reducing stress and strain on your joints our water rowers may be the perfect fit.
2. Get a total body workout!
Rowing utilizes almost every muscle group in your body. Most common cardio activities often focus on just the lower body, such as running, walking, or biking. Rowing uses the lower body, core, and upper body mixing anaerobic training with total body muscle endurance training. According to Life Fitness®, the act of rowing uses 60% of your lower body, 30% of your core, and 10% of your upper body. Users can also control the type of workout they achieve by adjusting the intensity higher or lower and either increase or decrease their strokes per minute.
3. Promote a healthy posture!
Maintaining a healthy posture is truly invaluable. Proper use of the rower strengthens your core and posterior chain (the series of muscles along your back and back of legs). Those who sit for prolonged periods can lose strength in their posterior chain over time contributing to poor posture, lower back pain, and hip issues. To maximize the benefits of a healthy posture practicing proper technique is essential. Always engage your core and hinge at the hips to avoid rounding the back.
Once you try a water rower you’ll be enamored with the incredibly natural and smooth quality of the row. The mesmerizing spin of the water during your workout brings you as close as possible to the real thing keeping you engaged and wanting more! It’s that time of year once again... when many seek to turn over a new leaf and better themselves in various ways by pursuing a self-prescribed New Year Resolution. January through February represents the time of the year many new faces will show up in gyms nationwide as people pursue the annual “it’s going to happen this year” bodymake-overplan. Unfortunately, by the time April graces our calendars most of these new faces disappear due to unfulfilled and often unrealistic goals. The reality is most people do not like to work out, and only consider it because they understand it is good for them. A major problem is a lack of knowledge, a lack of realistic thought process, and a lack of a support plan. Negative behaviors are what has created the problems, so it is positive behaviors that are needed to fix them.View
