PGA golfers and introductory players alike know how complex and complicated a golf swing truly is. During a swing, a golfer uses all segments of their body and a nearly full range of motion. Not to mention the added stress and risk of injury from the incredible acceleration followed by a sudden deceleration of the body.
Although, among golfers, a common misconception is believing that stronger muscles ultimately lead to a longer more powerful drive. This is not entirely true. While strength does aid in a powerful swing the most successful ball strikers are able to move their bodies with a high level of control and have achieved the necessary mobility.

Increased stiffness is common in all of us as we age but it can also be seen in younger golfers too, especially those who have gone through a rapid period of growth. Although, any individual who does not regularly move their body through a full range of motion will certainly suffer from decreased mobility. For any type of athlete, low mobility will ultimately lead to frustration, wasted time practicing, and lack of real improvement in their game.
Mobility, however, is just the starting point. Once a golfer has achieved optimal mobility the next crucial step is learning how to control it. Without the ability to properly control the body’s movement the golfer will exhibit a “sloppy” range of motion. This is when the body does not know how to accurately communicate position, distance, and speed. A golfer who is able to move the body with the necessary control throughout the desired range of motion will insure that the maximum possible club head speed can be produced and will have repeated consistently for a successful swing every time.
In the end, gaining access to full mobility and control will lead any golfer to achieving longer distances, improved accuracy, improved consistency, and avoiding injury.

Last week, July 13th, kicked off the first Lakeland Fitness and Golf Junior Golf Camp! This three-day event was a fun filled learning experience for youth golfers ages 6 to 14 of varying skill levels. The junior golfers received hands-on instruction from our golf professional, Scott Howard, and golf assistant, Kailey Godfrey, using our four TruGolf simulators and indoor putting green.View
