First Junior Golf Camp was TEE-rific!

Last week, July 13th, Lakeland Fitness and Golf kicked off the first Junior Golf Camp! This three-day event was a fun filled learning experience for youth golfers ages 6 to 14 of varying skill levels. The junior golfers received hands-on instruction from our golf professional, Scott Howard, and golf assistant, Kailey Godfrey, using our four TruGolf simulators and indoor putting green. If you aren’t familiar with a golf simulator think life-size interactive video game, which quickly captured the interest and attention of our young campers. TruGolf simulators feature over 100 golf courses from around the world with every detail perfectly recreated. The simulators include practice features such as chipping, putting, wedge shots, and full shots with each club. The simulators also display very accurate data for each shot like distance, clubhead speed, ball speed, club path, and many more.

Each day of the golf camp involved hands-on learning and educational discussions covering a wide range of fundamentals including:

  • Grip

  • Setup

  • Identifying what each club is, what it’s used for, and how to use it properly.

  • Several aspects of how to swing the club, balance, upper and lower body movements, wrists, head position, and watching the club make contact with the ball.

  • Covering the basic rules of golf.

  • The 3 types of different holes, and definition of par.

  • And more...

There was plenty of time for fun and games too! Like putting Tic-Tac-Toe, closest to the pin, closest to the line, and candy prizes! The day was also broken up with other activities like a round in our racquetball courts and jogging on our indoor track to help burn some extra energy. “It was an introduction to the game for beginner youth players, but at the same time, it was a fun way of teaching the game to them. The ultimate goal is to hopefully have them all take an interest in golf and want to keep learning and keep getting better”, said Scott. The series ended with a pizza party, group photos, and recap of what was covered over the week.

The event was a huge success thanks to all of our junior golfers! They came ready to learn with enthusiasm and filled the fitness center with laughs and fun. Members loved seeing their smiling faces and youthful energy! There are future plans to have additional golf camps this year and years to come. Contact us if you know any junior golfers who would be interested in joining a future golf camp, whether they are highly experienced or first-timers.
